After college I started out at Forbes Magazine in public relations. Then my wanderlust kicked in and I spent about six years living and working in Japan and Northern Italy. In college I had already spent a year in Dublin and Ireland working and studying. I learned that I loved the challenges and joys of living in and exploring other cultures. There are a lot of similarities between immersion in other cultures and immersion in genealogical research! When I returned from overseas, I worked in the Washington, DC trade association world doing technology, databases, project management and business integrations. It was during this time that I also achieved my MBA. Once my children were born, I transitioned to consulting for various clients on business projects. Eventually, a physician friend and I opened an urgent care business with two clinics in the DC area. Managing 50+ employees in one of the most highly regulated fields in a retail establishment that was open seven days a week was a thrilling and exhausting experience.
